The cult of the warrior knight deity has been widely witnessed among the Illyrians. Among them is the knightly deity of the Japods, Medauri, depicted riding a horse with a spear in his left hand.
Illyrian iconography with representations of horses or knight deities is rich. Horses were sacrificed in various actions to secure victory in war or luck.
Human sacrifices are also known among them: In Desareti, on the side of Korça, near the river Eord (today’s Devolli), the Illyrians, in order to secure victory in the match with the invading army, as Kurt Rufi, Flavio Ariani, etc. tell us, were slaughtered there : three boys, three girls and three black rams. They had sacrificed to their gods, according to the holy faith, to give courage and security to their warriors.
